Modifying either the PC or PlayStation Portable version of Gurumin is not a straightforward task. This page outlines some of the basic tools you can use to examine and modify game files.

File Formats[]

Nihon Falcom utilizes several proprietary file formats to store information such as audio, bitmap textures, and 3D models.

File Extension Usage Tools
.itp Compressed container for bitmap images (splash screens, 2D sprites, textures)
  • Falcom Data Archive Conversion Tool (falconvrt)
  • ITP Converter (itpcnv)
.it3 Compressed container for 3D models as well as bitmap textures
  • IT3 Converter (it3cnv)
.at3 Audio file format used in some PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable games

While other file formats exist, these are the the three types that will most commonly be used.

Tools[]

Falcom Data Archive Conversion Tool (falcnvrt)[]

This is the tool that most users who want to examine the game's files will likely use. This program was created by Japanese user Pokan. Pokan's webpage for the tool can be located here(Japanese). While the website is in Japanese, the tool itself has been translated into English. Simply download the appropriate archive, extract it, and run falcnvrt.exe to launch the tool.

ITP Converter (itpcnv)[]

Another tool by Pokan, this program does not have a graphical user interface. Pokan's webpage for the tool can be found here. This is a simple command-line tool that can convert .itp files into standard bitmaps, as well as converting bitmaps back into .itp files. The Falcom Data Archive Conversion Tool cannot convert files back into Falcom formats, so in order to modify any bitmaps, ITP Converter must be used.

IT3 Converter (it3cnv)[]

Another tool by Pokan, which again has no graphical user interface. Pokan's webpage for the tool can be found here. This is another command-line tool used for converting .it3 files into model files (.obj), material files (.mes) and texture bitmaps.

ITI Converter(iticnv),ITM Converter(itmcnv)[]

Another tool by Pokan, which again has no graphical user interface. Pokan's webpage for the tool can be found here.

Noesis[]

This program, developed by Señor Cassaroja, is an incredibly robust and powerful tool for anyone wishing to work with models pulled directly from most any video game. The Noesis website can be found here. Once files have been extracted with IT3 Converter, they can be viewed and manipulated in Noesis.
